This 9th annual study analyzes disability claims from 2009-2013, as reported by CDA member companies ā€“ America’s leading individual and group disability insurers.

Here are some key findings:

  • More employers offered plans, but fewer employees are covered

  • New claims declined for the second year in a row

  • Women still make up the majority of new claims

  • Musculoskeletal disorders remain the leading cause of claims

  • 41% of claimants are under age 50

  • Claim incidence continued to improve in 2013

  • Cancer claims increased in 2013
