Guardian Reducing Disability Insurance Premiums for Surgical Specialists

Guardian Life Insurance Company announced today they are upgrading occupational classes for some surgical specialties. Until now, the medical occupations shown below have been classified as a 3M when they perform invasive procedures, while their non-invasive counterparts have been classified as a 4M.

Effective immediately, all of the occupations shown below will be classified as a 4M, reducing their rates by 15%.

·        Dermatologists
·        Oncologists
·        Ophthalmologists
·        Osteopaths
·        Pathologists
·        Physician Assistants
·        Radiologists
·        Urologists

Berkshire Guardian Upgrading Disability Insurance Occupational Class for Endodontists, Orthodontists, Periodontists and Prosthedontists.

Berkshire Guardian has upgraded the occupational class for disability insurance from class 3M to 4M for endodontists, orthodontists, periodontists and prosthedontists. The difference in occupational class will result in a 17% savings in premiums. Dentists will remain at a 3M occupational class.

Berkshire Guardian Announces Increased Limits for Disability Insurance for Medical Fellows, Residents and Students.

Medical Residents, Fellows and Students now have increased disability insurance limits through Berkshire, Guardian. Fellows and medical residents in years 3+ can purchase up to $5000/month benefit, residents in year 2 or less can purchase up to $4000/month and senior medical students can purchase up to $2500/month benefit. 

First year physician limits are now available to graduating residents. If you are a medical resident in your last 6 months of residency, you can now purchase between $6000/month and $7500/month (depending on your medical specialty).
