As a graduating dental student,  it is important to protect your future earnings.  Most dentists graduate with a significant amount of school loans. These school loans still must be paid, even if you are unable to work.

When shopping for disability insurance, look for a policy that will cover you in your dental specialty. This is referred to as own occupation or specialty specific definition of disability. Different companies have different titles for these definitions so it is important to read proposal carefully. If you are moving onto a specialty such as orthodontics, you may want to delay your purchase as some companies will consider orthodontics in a more favorable occupational class which could save you on your premiums.

Set for Life Insurance has discounts available for dental students, residents, physicians and medical fellows and residents throughout the country. This can help save you between 15% (for men) and 55% (for women). These rates are unisex (female rates are approximately 40% more than male) and have employer sponsored discounts. If you purchase the policy while still employed at the discounted hospital, the discount is permanent and applies to all future increases.

When requesting a quote, be sure to mention the name of your hospital.
