If you apply for an individual disability insurance policy while pregnant, chances are that the company will add a pregnancy exclusion on your policy.
If you apply for an individual disability insurance policy prior to becoming pregnant, most likely they will not add any pregnancy exclusions unless you are seeking fertility treatment.
Assuming you do not have any pregnancy exclusions on your policy, most individual disability insurance policies will cover pregnancy as if it were any other medical condition. As such, you would still need to satisfy the elimination period (typically 90 days) and be unable to work as a result of the pregnancy.
Policies will not pay for a typical maternity leave unless it is medically necessary.
